Are you a writer? If so, this is the perfect post for you! And even if you're not a writer, don't leave before I can at least attempt to put a smile on your beautiful face!
Do you ever stare at a blank page, the cursor flashing almost tauntingly, just rubbing in your face how you can't seem to write?
I've been there. Countless times have I stared at my current work-in-progress, positive that having so much blue-light flooding my eyes would kill me. I'm pretty sure it killed at least a couple of my brain cells, because no matter how hard I stared at the page, not a single word ended up on it! Frustration consumed me and I slammed (not really) my laptop shut, giving up on my novel, convinced that I was just wasting my time with it.
Has this ever happened to you, dear "Lilies"? If you are a writer, then it most likely has, unless you have some wonderful super-power that enables you to be able to write whenever you want to! Doubts about your writing and feelings of annoyance are common, and in fact I would dare say, they are to be expected. Don't give up on your story though, for you have been given a wonderful gift and we have all been called to use our gifts to glorify God, and giving up would just be ignoring your gift.
'As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. ' 1 Peter 4:10
This verse tells us to use the gifts that God has given us to serve others, and your story can do just that! Books (whether fiction or non-fiction) can serve as wonderful ways to spread the news of Christ or to help a Christian get through a rough time in their life. Imagine helping a troubled teen find solace in one of your stories, or giving comfort to a girl healing from heartbreak, or imagine leading a lost soul to Christ. This is serving others and glorifying God.
"Writing isn't just something you like. It's a skill God gave you to use for His glory." --- Justice Tilsher
Sometimes writing can feel like a battle between you and your story (or perhaps your frustrating character who refuses to do what you ask), but I'm here to tell you that you're not alone in the fight. There are many other young writers like you, who have the same dreams and doubts as you. Having a like-minded community around you can prove to be such a wonderful blessing and can give you just what you need to finish that novel that you can't seem to finish.
That like-minded community is called "Jesus Writing Month", a 30-day writing sprint for young Christian writers, where you can find the community that you've always wanted. "Jesus Writing Month" will start off with a Bible study every day before you start writing, in order to reset for the day and commit your writing to God. There will also be a live leaderboard so that you can see how much you have written, as well as weekly challenges.
So, if this sounds like something that would propel your forward in your writing journey in a God-honoring way, then check out "Jesus Writing Month" by clicking here (which will take you to my special referral link for the movement).
I look forward to seeing you there!
